About this exercise

The cable high pulley overhead tricep extension is performed facing away from a high pulley machine with a rope or bar held overhead. This position places the triceps in a fully stretched starting position, maximising activation of the long head throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope or straight bar to a high pulley cable machine
  • Stand facing away from the machine, reach up and grip the attachment with both hands
  • Lean slightly forward from the hips with a stable, staggered stance
  • Position your elbows close to your head with the attachment behind your head
  • Extend your elbows forward and downward until your arms are fully straight
  • Squeeze the triceps at full extension
  • Slowly return to the start, allowing the elbows to bend and the attachment to travel back behind your head
