About this exercise

The cable hanging leg raise attaches ankle straps to a low pulley cable to add progressive resistance to the classic hanging leg raise. Hanging from a pull-up bar or cable structure, you lift your legs against the cable tension to intensely target the lower abs and core.

How to Perform

  • Attach ankle straps to the low pulley cable and fasten them securely around your ankles
  • Hang from a pull-up bar or overhead anchor with arms fully extended and a shoulder-width grip
  • Allow your legs to hang straight down toward the cable stack
  • Brace your core and raise your legs upward, keeping them as straight as possible
  • Lift until your legs are parallel to the floor or higher depending on your flexibility
  • Lower your legs slowly under control back to the starting position
  • Avoid swinging your body; use core strength to control each repetition
