About this exercise

A cable glute kickback variation performed on all fours where the working leg drives back and diagonally outward rather than straight back, targeting the glute medius and outer glute fibres in addition to the glute maximus. The cable provides constant tension throughout the range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Attach an ankle strap to the low pulley cable and fasten it around one ankle
  • Get into a hands-and-knees position facing the cable machine, with a neutral spine
  • Brace your core to prevent your lower back from arching
  • Drive the working leg back and diagonally outward in a controlled arc, squeezing the glute at the top
  • Avoid rotating your hips or tilting your pelvis during the movement
  • Lower the leg slowly back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
