About this exercise

The Cable Decline Press is a lower-chest exercise performed lying on a decline bench with cables attached from both sides, pressing the handles in a downward arc. The constant tension provided by the cables throughout the range of motion effectively isolates the lower pectoral fibers.

How to Perform

  • Set the bench to a decline angle and position it between the cable stations at shoulder height
  • Secure your legs under the pad and lie back on the bench
  • Grasp the cable handles with a neutral or pronated grip at chest level
  • Press your back and head firmly into the bench with your feet flat on the footrest
  • Press the handles forward and downward in an arc until your arms are fully extended
  • Squeeze the lower chest at the full extension, then slowly return to the starting position
  • Maintain control throughout and avoid letting the cables pull your arms too far back
