About this exercise

A lat isolation exercise performed bent forward at the hips, pulling a rope from a high pulley down past the thighs with straight arms. The bent-over position lengthens the lats at the top and, with the elbows fixed, keeps the biceps out of the pull.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope to a high pulley and stand facing the machine with your feet hip-width apart
  • Grip one end of the rope in each hand and bend forward from the hips to roughly 45 degrees with your arms extended
  • Keeping your arms straight, pull the rope down and slightly apart until your hands pass your thighs
  • Squeeze the lats at the bottom of the movement
  • Let the rope rise back up under full control and repeat
