About this exercise

The cable bent-over reverse-grip row is a back exercise that uses a supinated (underhand) grip on a low cable pulley while hinging at the hips. The reverse grip shifts emphasis toward the lower lats and biceps compared to a standard overhand row, and the cable provides constant tension throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Attach a straight bar to the low pulley of a cable machine
  • Stand facing the machine, grip the bar with an underhand grip at approximately shoulder width
  • Hinge at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor, keeping your back flat
  • Let the bar hang with your arms extended toward the pulley
  • Pull the bar toward your lower abdomen by driving your elbows back
  • Squeeze your lats and upper back at peak contraction
  • Slowly lower the bar back to the starting position with control
