About this exercise

The cable bent-over one-arm lateral raise targets the rear deltoid by performing a reverse fly motion with a low-pulley cable while hinged forward at the hips. The cable provides constant tension throughout the arc, making it effective for isolating the posterior shoulder.

How to Perform

  • Set a low pulley cable to the lowest position and attach a single-D handle
  • Stand side-on to the cable station and hinge forward at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Grasp the handle with the hand furthest from the machine, keeping a slight bend in the elbow
  • Brace your core and maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement
  • Raise the handle out and upward in a wide arc until your arm is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Pause at the top, then slowly lower the handle back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
