The Cable Bar Lateral Pulldown is a lat pulldown variation performed with a straight bar on a cable machine, targeting the latissimus dorsi and upper back. It builds width and thickness in the back while also engaging the biceps as a secondary mover.

How to Perform

  • Sit at a lat pulldown machine and attach a straight bar to the overhead cable
  • Grip the bar with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width
  • Secure your thighs under the pads and sit tall with a slight lean back
  • Pull the bar down toward your upper chest, leading with your elbows
  • Squeeze your lats at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly allow the bar to rise back to the starting position, fully extending your arms
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
