About this exercise

The cable 45-degree reverse fly is a posterior deltoid and upper back exercise performed with the torso hinged forward at roughly 45 degrees. Using dual cables set at a low or mid position, the arms sweep outward and upward in a wide arc, directly targeting the rear delts and rhomboids.

How to Perform

  • Set both cable pulleys to a low or mid position and attach a single-handle to each
  • Stand between the pulleys, hinge at the hips to about 45 degrees, and grasp the left handle with your right hand and the right handle with your left hand (cables crossed)
  • Keep a slight bend in the elbows and brace your core throughout
  • Raise both arms out to your sides in a wide arc until they are roughly parallel to the floor
  • Squeeze the rear deltoids and rhomboids at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the handles back to the starting crossed position under control
