About this exercise

The burpee side tap step jack is a dynamic full-body plyometric exercise that combines a burpee with a lateral side tap and a step jack, keeping heart rate elevated while training coordination, explosive power, and lower body agility. It is commonly used as a conditioning or HIIT drill.

How to Perform

  • Start standing with feet together, then drop your hands to the floor and jump or step your feet back into a high plank
  • Perform a push-up (optional), then jump or step your feet back toward your hands
  • Rise up and tap one foot out to the side, then bring it back in — performing a side tap
  • Immediately step one foot out to the side and then the other (step jack), then return feet together
  • Transition directly into the next burpee rep
  • Alternate the tap and step jack side each rep or as directed
  • Keep your core engaged and land softly to protect your joints
