About this exercise

A bodyweight single-leg squat variation where the rear foot is elevated on a chair, placing greater demand on the front leg's quadriceps and glutes. The elevated rear foot increases the range of motion and challenges hip flexibility and balance simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand about two feet in front of a chair, facing away from it
  • Lift one foot behind you and rest the top of that foot on the seat of the chair
  • Place your front foot far enough forward that your knee stays over your ankle at the bottom
  • Keep your torso upright and engage your core
  • Lower your back knee toward the floor by bending your front knee
  • Descend until your front thigh is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Drive through your front heel to return to the starting position
