About this exercise

The boxing jab is a quick, straight punch delivered with the lead hand, making it the most fundamental strike in boxing and combat sports training. It develops shoulder endurance, hand speed, and cardiovascular fitness while training your sense of distance and timing.

How to Perform

  • Stand in a boxing stance with your lead foot forward and feet shoulder-width apart
  • Raise both fists to guard position at jaw level with elbows tucked in
  • Quickly extend your lead arm straight toward the target, rotating the fist palm-down at full extension
  • Snap the arm back to guard position immediately after each punch
  • Keep your chin slightly tucked and rear hand up to protect your face throughout
