About this exercise

A shoulder rehabilitation and strengthening exercise using water bottles as improvised weights. Performed in a hinged bent-over position, the arms raise into a Y shape overhead, targeting the posterior deltoid, lower trapezius, and rhomboids.

How to Perform

  • Hold a water bottle in each hand and hinge forward at the hips until your torso is nearly parallel with the floor
  • Let your arms hang straight down with palms facing each other
  • Keeping a slight bend in your elbows, raise both arms diagonally up and out to form a Y shape
  • Lift until your arms are in line with your torso or slightly above
  • Squeeze the rear delts and upper back at the top
  • Slowly lower the bottles back to the starting position under control
  • Keep your core braced and spine neutral throughout
