About this exercise

An advanced single-leg squat performed on the dome side of a BOSU ball, with arms extended forward as a counterbalance. The unstable surface maximises proprioceptive demand on the ankle, knee, and hip stabilisers while the skater squat pattern targets the quadriceps and glutes.

How to Perform

  • Place the BOSU ball dome-side up on the floor and carefully step onto it with one foot centred on the dome
  • Extend your arms straight forward at shoulder height to act as a counterbalance
  • Lift the non-working leg slightly behind you, keeping it off the BOSU
  • Brace your core and maintain an upright torso throughout
  • Slowly lower your body by bending the standing knee, tracking it over the toes, until your thigh approaches parallel or as far as balance allows
  • Pause briefly at the bottom, maintaining control on the unstable surface
  • Drive through the heel to extend the knee and return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one leg before carefully stepping off and switching sides
