About this exercise

The bodyweight walking calf raise is a dynamic calf exercise where you rise onto the toes of one foot with each step forward, mimicking an exaggerated walking motion. It trains the gastrocnemius and soleus through a full range of motion while also challenging ankle stability and balance. No equipment is needed, making it ideal for warm-ups, active recovery, or as a finisher.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and core braced
  • Take a step forward with one foot, rising onto the toes of your back foot as you do
  • Lower the heel of the back foot and transfer your weight forward onto the stepping foot
  • As you shift weight forward, rise onto the toes of that foot before taking the next step
  • Continue walking forward, rising onto the toes of the trailing foot with each step
  • Keep your knees soft and your torso upright throughout
  • Aim for a smooth, rhythmic motion rather than rushing through the steps
