About this exercise

A unilateral lower-body exercise in which you step onto a raised box one leg at a time using only bodyweight, building quad and glute strength, balance, and knee stability.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a step box with feet hip-width apart
  • Place one foot fully and flat on top of the box
  • Drive through the heel of the elevated foot to press your body upward onto the box
  • Bring the trailing foot up to stand on the box with both feet
  • Step back down with control, lowering the trailing foot first
  • Complete all reps on one leg before switching to the other
