About this exercise

A simple yet effective unilateral lower-body exercise performed without added weight, stepping up onto an elevated platform to strengthen the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings while improving single-leg balance and coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a sturdy step or box with feet hip-width apart
  • Place one foot fully on top of the step
  • Press through the heel of the elevated foot to step up, bringing the trailing leg up alongside it
  • Stand fully upright on the step with both feet
  • Slowly lower the trailing leg back to the floor with control
  • Return to the starting position and repeat for the target reps before switching legs
