About this exercise

The Bodyweight Standing Close-Grip One-Arm Row uses your own body weight as resistance by leaning back from a fixed anchor — such as a suspension trainer or sturdy bar — and rowing with one arm. The close, neutral grip increases biceps involvement while demanding significant core stability to prevent rotation.

How to Perform

  • Grip a fixed anchor point (such as a suspension strap or vertical bar) with one hand using a neutral, close grip
  • Lean back so your body forms a diagonal line with the floor, feet planted and arm fully extended
  • Brace your core to keep your body rigid and square — avoid rotating toward or away from the anchor
  • Pull your chest toward the anchor by driving your elbow back, keeping it close to your torso
  • Pause briefly at the top when your hand reaches your ribcage
  • Lower yourself slowly back to the fully extended starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
