About this exercise

The bodyweight squat with overhead press combines a standard squat with an arms-overhead press at the top of the movement. It engages the legs and glutes during the descent while activating the shoulders and core on the way up, making it an effective full-body conditioning exercise.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hands at shoulder height, palms facing forward
  • Brace your core, push your hips back, and lower into a squat until thighs are parallel to the floor
  • Drive through your heels to stand back up
  • As you reach the top, press both arms fully overhead
  • Lower your hands back to shoulder height as you begin the next squat
  • Keep your chest up and knees tracking over your toes throughout
  • Perform the movement in a smooth, controlled rhythm
