About this exercise

Bodyweight slow to explosive squats combine a controlled eccentric squat descent with a powerful jump at the top, training both muscular strength and explosive power in the same repetition. The slow phase increases time under tension while the explosive phase develops fast-twitch muscle fibers.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and toes slightly turned out
  • Slowly lower into a deep squat over 3–4 seconds, keeping your chest tall and knees tracking over your toes
  • Pause briefly at the bottom of the squat
  • Explosively drive through your heels and jump as high as possible
  • Land softly with slightly bent knees and immediately begin the next slow descent
  • Maintain an upright torso throughout the movement
