About this exercise

The bodyweight pulse squat involves holding a partial squat position and performing small, rapid up-and-down pulsing movements within a limited range of motion. This technique keeps constant tension on the quadriceps and glutes, intensifying the burn without requiring any equipment.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and toes slightly turned out
  • Lower into a squat until your thighs are roughly parallel to the floor
  • Hold this position and perform small pulsing movements, rising only a few centimetres before descending again
  • Keep your chest tall, core engaged, and heels flat on the floor throughout
  • Continue pulsing for the desired number of reps or duration
  • Drive through your heels to return to standing after completing the set
