Bodyweight Pulse Forward Lunge

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Bodyweight Pulse Forward Lunge.

EasyGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

A forward lunge variation that adds small pulsing movements at the bottom of the range to increase time under tension in the quadriceps and glutes without any added load. The pulses prevent the stretch-shortening reflex from contributing, making each rep more demanding for the working leg.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and hands on your hips or at your sides
  • Step one foot forward and lower into a lunge until both knees form roughly 90-degree angles
  • Perform 2–3 small downward pulses at the bottom by dipping a few centimetres and coming back up
  • Push through the front heel to return to the starting position
  • Repeat on the opposite leg, alternating sides for the desired number of reps
