About this exercise

A side-lying crunch that challenges the obliques by simultaneously lifting the torso and legs into a V-shape. The movement combines lateral flexion with hip flexion to deeply engage the side abdominals.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side on a mat with your legs stacked and your body in a straight line
  • Extend your lower arm along the mat for support or rest your head on it
  • Place your top hand behind your head or reach it toward your feet
  • Simultaneously lift your legs and your upper body off the mat by contracting your obliques
  • Hold briefly at the top of the V position, squeezing the side of your core
  • Slowly lower both your legs and torso back to the starting position with control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching
