About this exercise

The bodyweight low split squat is a unilateral lower-body exercise performed with the rear knee nearly touching the floor at the bottom position, maximising hip flexor stretch, quad activation, and glute loading through a deep range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Stand in a staggered stance with one foot forward and the other foot stepped back
  • Lower your body by bending both knees, allowing the rear knee to descend close to the floor
  • Keep your front shin as vertical as possible and your torso upright
  • Pause briefly at the bottom when your rear knee is just above the floor
  • Drive through your front heel to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
  • Keep your core braced and avoid letting your front knee cave inward
