About this exercise

The Kneeling Butterfly with Towels is a hip-adductor mobility drill performed from a kneeling position with towels placed under the knees. Sliding the knees outward and inward on the towels allows the inner thighs and hip muscles to be stretched and mobilized through a smooth, controlled arc.

How to Perform

  • Place two folded towels on a smooth floor and kneel on them with knees about hip-width apart and toes pointing back
  • Sit upright with hands on your hips or resting on the floor in front of you for balance
  • Slowly slide both knees outward along the floor, opening your hips as far as is comfortable
  • Hold the end position for a moment, feeling the stretch through the inner thighs
  • Gently slide your knees back in to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired duration or number of repetitions
