About this exercise

The Bodyweight Half Squat is a beginner-friendly lower-body exercise that descends only to roughly 90 degrees or slightly above parallel, reducing knee stress while still activating the quadriceps, glutes, and core. It is ideal for building squat mechanics and strengthening the legs without external load.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and toes slightly turned out
  • Extend your arms forward for balance or cross them over your chest
  • Brace your core and keep your chest up throughout the movement
  • Push your hips back and bend your knees to lower to about half squat depth
  • Keep your knees tracking over your toes and heels firmly on the floor
  • Pause briefly at the bottom position
  • Drive through your heels to return to the standing position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
