About this exercise

The bodyweight calf raise wall sit combines an isometric wall sit with dynamic calf raises, simultaneously challenging the quadriceps with a static hold while working the calves through a full range of motion. The wall provides stability so you can focus on calf contraction.

How to Perform

  • Stand with your back flat against a wall and walk your feet forward until your knees are at approximately 90 degrees
  • Press your back firmly into the wall and hold this wall sit position throughout the set
  • With feet hip-width apart and flat on the floor, raise both heels as high as possible
  • Squeeze the calves at the top for a brief pause
  • Lower the heels slowly back to the floor under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps without letting your knees rise or your back leave the wall
