About this exercise

A bodyweight core-stability exercise that combines the classic bird dog movement with a plank starting position. From a high plank, you alternately extend one arm forward and the opposite leg back, demanding anti-rotation control from the core, lower back, and glutes throughout.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high plank position with your hands directly under your shoulders and your body forming a straight line from head to heels
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level and square to the floor
  • Simultaneously extend your right arm straight forward and your left leg straight back, keeping both parallel to the floor
  • Hold the extended position briefly, maintaining a neutral spine without rotating the hips
  • Return your hand and foot to the plank position with control
  • Repeat on the opposite side, extending the left arm and the right leg
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
