About this exercise

The kneeling bent leg side kick is a bodyweight glute and hip abductor exercise performed on all fours. Keeping the knee bent at 90 degrees, you lift one leg out to the side to target the gluteus medius and outer thigh while the core stabilizes the pelvis.

How to Perform

  • Start on all fours with your hands directly under your shoulders and knees under your hips
  • Brace your core and keep your spine in a neutral position throughout
  • Keeping your knee bent at roughly 90 degrees, lift one leg out to the side
  • Raise the leg until your thigh is parallel to the floor or slightly above hip height
  • Pause at the top and squeeze the glutes and outer hip
  • Lower your leg back to the starting position in a controlled manner
