About this exercise

Battling Ropes Half Kneeling is a conditioning drill performed in a half-kneeling position while simultaneously creating waves with heavy battle ropes. The kneeling stance removes the lower body's contribution to power, forcing the shoulders, arms, and core to generate all the force and dramatically increasing anti-rotation demand.

How to Perform

  • Kneel with one knee down and the opposite foot forward in a stable lunge position, about arm's length from the rope anchor
  • Hold one rope end in each hand with a neutral grip
  • Brace your core and keep your torso tall and upright
  • Move both arms up and down in an alternating or simultaneous wave pattern, driving through the shoulders
  • Maintain a steady rhythm for the prescribed duration
  • Keep the hips square and avoid rotating the trunk
