About this exercise

An isolation exercise for the wrist extensors and forearm brachioradialis performed standing with a barbell held in an overhand grip. Curling the wrists upward against the barbell load strengthens the extensor side of the forearms and the muscles along the outer forearm.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright and hold a barbell with an overhand (pronated) grip, hands shoulder-width apart
  • Let your wrists relax and drop downward so the barbell hangs slightly below the level of your hands
  • Extend your wrists upward by lifting the back of your hands toward your forearms
  • Squeeze the forearm extensors at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower your wrists back to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Keep your forearms still throughout — only the wrists should move
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
