About this exercise

An isolation exercise for the wrist flexors performed standing with a barbell held behind the back or in front with an underhand grip. The movement focuses on curling the wrists upward against the resistance of the barbell to develop forearm thickness and grip strength.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright and hold a barbell with an underhand (supinated) grip, hands shoulder-width apart
  • Let the barbell rest in your fingers with your wrists relaxed and drooping downward
  • Curl your wrists upward by flexing at the wrist joint, rolling the barbell up into your palms
  • Squeeze the forearm flexors at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the wrists back down to the starting position, fully extending them
  • Keep your forearms stationary throughout — only the wrists should move
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
