Barbell Standing Concentration Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Barbell Standing Concentration Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The barbell standing concentration curl is a focused biceps exercise performed in a bent-over stance. By bracing the upper arms against the thighs, elbow movement is minimized and the biceps are forced to perform the curl in strict isolation. Using a barbell allows for heavier loading than a dumbbell concentration curl while still providing the same concentrated muscle tension.

How to Perform

  • Load a barbell with an appropriate weight and stand with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Hinge forward at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Grip the barbell with an underhand grip, hands about shoulder-width apart
  • Rest or brace the back of your upper arms against the inside of your thighs to stabilize
  • Curl the barbell upward by flexing the elbows, keeping the upper arms stationary
  • Squeeze the biceps hard at the top of the movement
  • Lower the barbell slowly back to full arm extension
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
