About this exercise

A rotational core exercise in which you sit on a stability ball with a barbell resting across your upper back and rotate your torso from side to side. The unstable surface of the ball engages deeper spinal stabilizers while the barbell adds load to the oblique rotation.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a stability ball with feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart
  • Position a barbell across your upper back and shoulders, gripping it with both hands wide
  • Brace your core and keep your hips facing forward throughout the movement
  • Rotate your torso to the right as far as comfortable without rotating your hips
  • Return through center, then rotate to the left side
  • Continue alternating sides in a controlled, deliberate rhythm
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps per side
