Barbell Prone Incline Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Barbell Prone Incline Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

A barbell bicep curl performed lying face-down (prone) on an incline bench, allowing the arms to hang freely below the shoulder joint. This position places the biceps under a unique stretch at the bottom of the movement and removes the ability to cheat with momentum.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a moderate incline (around 45–60 degrees)
  • Lie face-down on the bench with your chest against the pad and arms hanging straight down
  • Grip the barbell with an underhand (supinated) grip at shoulder width
  • Curl the bar upward by flexing the elbows while keeping the upper arms perpendicular to the floor
  • Squeeze the biceps at the top of the movement
  • Lower the bar slowly back to full arm extension
  • Keep the chest in contact with the bench throughout the set
