HardQuadriceps

About this exercise

A challenging unilateral squat variation performed with a barbell on the upper back, requiring each leg to bear the full load independently. It develops single-leg strength, balance, and symmetry in the quadriceps and glutes while exposing and correcting side-to-side imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Position the barbell on your upper traps/rear shoulders as in a back squat
  • Stand with feet hip-width apart, then lift one foot slightly off the floor
  • Hinge at the hip and bend the standing knee, lowering your body under control
  • Keep your torso upright and the knee tracking over the toes
  • Descend until the thigh is roughly parallel to the floor, or as low as mobility allows
  • Drive through the heel to extend the hip and knee back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
