About this exercise

A conventional deadlift variation using one hand in an overhand grip and the other in an underhand grip to prevent the bar from rolling out of the hands during heavy pulls. This grip increases grip security, allowing heavier loads to be lifted compared to a standard double-overhand grip.

How to Perform

  • Position the barbell over your mid-foot and stand with feet hip-width apart
  • Hinge at the hips and grip the bar with one hand pronated (overhand) and the other supinated (underhand)
  • Set a neutral spine with hips below shoulders, chest tall, and lats engaged
  • Push the floor away through your heels as you extend the hips and knees, keeping the bar close to your body
  • Lock out the hips and knees fully at the top with glutes squeezed
  • Hinge the hips back and lower the bar with control to the floor
