About this exercise

The barbell leg twist press is a floor press variation that incorporates a rotational leg movement, engaging the chest, shoulders, and triceps while the twisting action of the legs adds core and oblique involvement. It develops pressing strength with an anti-rotation demand.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back holding a barbell with a shoulder-width grip, arms fully extended above your chest
  • Plant your feet flat on the floor with knees bent
  • Lower the barbell to your chest under control, keeping elbows at roughly 45 degrees
  • As you press the barbell back up, rotate your knees and lower body to one side
  • Return your legs to center as you fully extend your arms
  • On the next rep, rotate your legs to the opposite side
  • Alternate leg rotations each repetition while keeping the press controlled
