About this exercise

A triceps isolation exercise performed lying on an incline bench, in which you lower a barbell toward your forehead and extend it back to full arm extension. The incline angle shifts more tension onto the long head of the triceps compared to the flat variation.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a moderate incline (around 30–45 degrees) and lie back with your head at the elevated end
  • Grip the barbell slightly narrower than shoulder width with an overhand grip
  • Press the barbell up directly over your chest with arms fully extended
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary, hinge at the elbows and lower the bar slowly toward your forehead
  • Stop just before the bar touches your head
  • Extend your elbows to press the bar back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
