About this exercise

An incline barbell shoulder press performed with a bench set inside a squat rack for safety, targeting the front deltoids with secondary involvement of the side deltoids and triceps. The incline angle and rack safeties allow heavier loading with added security.

How to Perform

  • Set the bench to an incline of approximately 60–75 degrees inside the squat rack
  • Adjust the rack safeties to just below shoulder level
  • Unrack the barbell and hold it at shoulder width with an overhand grip
  • Sit back against the bench with feet flat on the floor
  • Brace your core and press the barbell overhead until arms are fully extended
  • Pause at the top, then slowly lower the bar back to shoulder level
  • Rack the bar safely after completing all repetitions
