About this exercise

The barbell incline rear delt row is performed lying face-down on an incline bench, allowing the rear deltoids and upper back muscles to be isolated without lower-back involvement. The incline angle limits momentum and emphasizes full range of motion on the rear delts.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a 30–45 degree incline and lie face-down with your chest against the pad
  • Hold a barbell with a pronated (overhand) grip slightly wider than shoulder width, arms hanging down
  • Retract your shoulder blades and pull the barbell upward by driving your elbows high and wide
  • Squeeze your rear deltoids and upper back at the top of the movement
  • Lower the barbell under control back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
