About this exercise

The barbell feet flat bench press is a variation of the standard bench press in which both feet are placed flat on the bench surface rather than on the floor. This position flattens the lower back against the bench, reducing spinal arch and eliminating leg drive, placing greater demand on the chest, triceps, and anterior deltoids with a more shoulder-friendly setup.

How to Perform

  • Lie on a flat bench and plant both feet flat on the bench surface
  • Grip the barbell slightly wider than shoulder-width with a firm overhand grip
  • Unrack the bar and hold it directly above your chest with arms extended
  • Lower the bar in a controlled arc to your mid-chest, keeping elbows at roughly 45–60° from your torso
  • Press the bar back up to the starting position by driving through the chest and triceps
  • Re-rack after completing all reps
