MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The barbell alternate biceps curl is a unilateral variation in which each arm curls one end of the barbell in alternating fashion, allowing greater focus on each bicep individually while maintaining grip and forearm engagement throughout. The alternating rhythm also helps address strength imbalances between sides.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding the barbell with a shoulder-width underhand grip, arms fully extended
  • Keep your elbows close to your torso and your upper arms stationary
  • Curl the barbell upward by flexing one arm, rotating the emphasis to that side
  • Squeeze the bicep at the top of the movement
  • Lower the arm in a controlled arc back to the starting position
  • Immediately repeat with the opposite arm, alternating each rep
  • Maintain an upright posture and avoid swinging the torso to generate momentum
