The standing barbell French press is an overhead triceps extension that isolates and builds the triceps, especially the long head.

How to Perform

  • Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell overhead with an overhand grip and your arms extended
  • Keep your elbows pointing forward and close to your head
  • Lower the barbell behind your head by bending only at the elbows
  • Stop when you feel a stretch in your triceps
  • Extend your arms to press the barbell back overhead
  • Squeeze your triceps at the top and repeat
