About this exercise

A glute ham raise assisted by a resistance band looped around the machine base for support, reducing the bodyweight load and making the exercise more accessible to athletes building toward unassisted reps. The band provides the most assistance at the most challenging bottom portion of the movement.

How to Perform

  • Set up a glute ham raise machine and loop a resistance band around the base or footpad for assistance
  • Position yourself face-down with feet secured under the ankle rollers and hips on the pad
  • Hold the band with your hands or allow it to support your chest as you slowly lower your torso toward the floor
  • Pause near the bottom, then engage your hamstrings and glutes to curl your body back up to the starting position
  • Control the descent on every rep to increase time under tension
  • Keep your body in a straight line at the top of each rep
