About this exercise

A lying crunch performed with a resistance band anchored low behind the head to add resistance to the upward curl. The band's tension increases as the torso rises, providing progressive overload for the upper portion of the rectus abdominis.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Anchor the resistance band low behind you and hold both ends beside your head or across your chest
  • Flatten your lower back against the floor and brace your core
  • Curl your upper torso off the floor, lifting your shoulder blades and bringing your chest toward your knees
  • Squeeze your abs firmly at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower your upper back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions without letting the band pull you down abruptly
