About this exercise

The band diagonal twist is a rotational core exercise performed with a resistance band, moving the arms in a diagonal chopping pattern from high to low (or low to high). It trains the obliques and rotational power through a full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Anchor the resistance band at a high point to one side (or stand on one end), holding both ends with both hands
  • Stand sideways to the anchor with feet shoulder-width apart and arms extended toward the high anchor point
  • Rotate your torso diagonally downward, pulling the band across your body toward the opposite hip, pivoting the back foot as needed
  • Hold briefly at the bottom, then return to the start in a controlled manner
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch sides and repeat
