About this exercise

Band Standing Hip Extension is a unilateral glute and hamstring exercise performed upright with a resistance band anchored at ankle height. The working leg drives backward against the band, targeting the glutes through a focused hip extension movement.

How to Perform

  • Anchor a resistance band to a sturdy fixed object at ankle height and loop the other end around your working ankle
  • Stand facing the anchor point with the band taut, feet hip-width apart
  • Hold a wall or support for balance if needed, and keep your torso upright with your core engaged
  • Keeping your working leg straight, drive it backward as far as your hip mobility allows without arching your lower back
  • Squeeze your glute firmly at the end of the range of motion
  • Slowly return the working leg to the starting position, controlling the band's pull
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch legs
