About this exercise

The Band Seated Shoulder Press is a shoulder exercise performed seated on the floor or a bench with a resistance band. Pressing overhead from a seated position eliminates lower-body drive, isolating the deltoids and triceps throughout the full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor or a bench and anchor the resistance band under your glutes or the seat
  • Hold one end of the band in each hand at shoulder height, palms facing forward
  • Keep your core braced and your back upright
  • Press both hands straight overhead until your arms are fully extended
  • Pause briefly at the top, then slowly lower your hands back to shoulder height
  • Avoid flaring the elbows excessively — maintain a comfortable pressing angle throughout
