Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Band Seated Lateral Raise.

EasySide shoulders

About this exercise

The band seated lateral raise isolates the lateral deltoids using a resistance band while seated, providing constant tension throughout the range of motion. The seated position reduces momentum and keeps the focus squarely on the side delts for a controlled, joint-friendly shoulder workout.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a bench or chair and step both feet on the centre of a resistance band, holding one end in each hand at your sides
  • Sit tall with a neutral spine and brace your core
  • Raise both arms out to the sides until they reach shoulder height, keeping a slight bend in the elbows
  • Pause briefly at the top and feel the squeeze in your lateral deltoids
  • Slowly lower your arms back to the starting position under control
  • Avoid shrugging your shoulders or leaning to one side during the movement
